What is the Importance of Clinker in Cement Production?
In the production of cement, the grinding status and availability are of great importance. We can examine this importance under two headings. The first of these develops due to the fine and granularity of the cement, except for its chemical properties. Secondly, the cost and energy consumption in cement formation is mostly consumed during the grinding phase. For this reason, the structure of the clinkers in the grinding stage is very important.
To make it clear, more energy is spent when grinding the clinker material with a hard structure compared to grinding the clinker material with a soft structure. The condition of grinding is not the only criteria for the formation of this micro-structure. The speed factor, the type and model of the furnace used are also effective in the heating and cooling process.
What Are The Materials Used In Clinker Manufacture?
While producing clinker, there are many main components in the production phase. Calcium silicates called alite and belit and tricalcium aluminate, which are widely used, and another substance, aluminoferrite, are used in the production process. It is possible to explain the main components used as follows.
- Alite: It is in a form called tricalcium silicate which is impure in structure. Considering the ratio of materials used in the production of clinker, these percentages show 65.
- Belit: This substance is referred to as dicalcium silicate and the amount found as a percentage in the production of clinker can be calculated as 15.
- Aluminate: Although it has not much role in clinker production compared to other used materials. It has up to 7% usage.
- Ferrite: One of the less used materials, it is another deferrite. It has 8 percent usage in clinker production.
It is a limestone with a dense clay content, which is considered as the source of alumino silicate, which can be considered as the main material in clinker production, and emerged with the expectation of a second material. The raw material said to be added to the limestone depends on the purity of the stone.
